Starting on my FPS
December 5th, 2022

Hello,

Sorry for such a long delay in posts! I've not had as much time in the last month for a few reasons, such as preparing for a final exam, holidays, and my second go-around with Covid-19. But, with a lot of that stuff behind me, I have some more time to work on this FPS game.

Honestly, I am definitely realizing that I am a lot more comfortable with 2D development than I am with 3D development. As I've been getting started here with getting a character moving, I'm truly starting to come to terms with just how involved 3D game physics are (and how subtle changes can make a huge difference). While I still have lots to learn, I was able to play with the gravity for my character so that it feels a little more natural, i.e the player will "plummet" faster at the bottom of their jump's arc.

I found a few great asset packs to work with, too (it still never ceases to amaze me how many cheap or free assets exist out there to play with). Right now I want to get some basics down for the player, such as a gun that fires properly and feels like it has a little life to it, and then I will try to detail and polish those areas. For now, though, I definitely feel like I've picked a project that is pretty exciting for me and offers a lot for me to learn.
