Hi Again,
Back to the blog! Although I haven't made a post here in a while, I have been very busy in the last year with programming. About March of last year, I wrote on this blog that I had started to work on a 2D RPG game. Well I've been working on it consistently since last year, and it's become my biggest project yet. I've done a lot of things with this game I have never done before, including but not limited to randomly-generated dungeons, a full loot system, a drag-and-drop inventory, multiple combat mechanics and abilities, and more.
There's a lot of stuff in this game, too much for one update, so I am going to make several posts detailing the different features I've created in this game in the last year. I always think it's a good idea to stop where you are and take inventory of what you've done with a project, so I'm hoping that dissecting my game in the next few posts will help me make it better as I continue to work on it here.
As a little sneak-peak, see the gif below - I'm proud of how lively the spawn area is in the game!
I'm also very happy to say that I've gone back to school to finally get my bachelor's degree in Computer Science. I'm currently enrolled in a post-baccalaureate CS program at Oregon State University - Go Beavs! - where I'm able to take rigorous computer science courses in a well-established online program. I'm able to take the courses while working full-time, so it works very well for me right now. I'm 2½ courses through the program so far, and it's been a lot of fun, and I've learned a lot.
(I have to say, too, after taking Discrete Math for the second time, it turns out this education thing works, because it is much, much easier to grasp this time around).
Looking forward to more posts in the days and weeks to come 😁
(Also, wanted to note here that while I did create this game, many of the game's assets are from artists who create free pixel art for use for developers. I will be creating a credits list shortly, as these artists do a great service to people like me who want to cut their teeth and make some games!)
